Mexico 2026
We traveled to Mexico in January 2026, a first for both of us. We started off in Mexico City, spending five days eating and exploring, soaking in the culture, learning the country’s rich history, and experimenting with public transportation. Then we flew to Baja California Sur and tramped around for ten days, hopping from beach town to beach town, sampling fish tacos everywhere we went.
Palacio de Bellas Artes, CDMX
Eating all the tacos, and street tacos are amazing
Diego Rivera's Carnival de Vida Mexicana
Palacio de Bellas Artes was designed to celebrate the centennial of the Mexican War of Independence in 1910
Biblioteca Vasconcelos — the architect's vision of the library is a container, or "ark, a carrier of human knowledge"
Teotihuacan: from 1-500 AD it was the largest city in the Americas, with a population of at least 25,000, but has been estimated to be at 125,000 or more. Here we are at the Pyramid of the Sun. For religious and sacrificial purposes, the pyramid aligns with the prominent Cerro Gordo mountain to the north, while also marking key positions of the sun during the equinoxes and solstices.
A morning walk to Chapultepec Park
The rooftop garden of Chapultepec Castle, once a sacred place for the Aztecs and then a military academy, imperial residence, presidential residence, and observatory.

We flew from CDMX to La Paz to start our adventure in Baja California Sur
Suited up in a full wetsuit to swim with whale sharks in the Sea of Cortez
We saw several whale sharks, all juveniles that were 15' long and 25 years old. The adults grow to 60' and can be nearly 100 years old.

We went out for a 3 day sea kayak camping adventure, paddling around Isla Danzante with some great guides
Sunrise
More cacti wherever you look
More blue views wherever you look
A sky full of stars. We failed to get a picture of bioluminescence that lit up in the waves. This was a really unique view that one of the guides described as stars in the skies and stars in the ocean.
Chan (and everyone!) got to enjoy a birthday pineapple upside down cake at the beach campsite thanks to chef Daniel
