Three countries. One day.
Leaving Siem Riep meant only one thing: three countries in one day. Due to the high airfare prices this time of year in Southeast Asia, we instead opted for ground travel. To get to Yangon, Burma by 9pm we started at 8am with taxi from Siem Riep to the Cambodia/Thailand border. At the border crossing, we waited in a hot, but short line, for Cambodia border control to allow us out of their lovely country. While waiting in line, we made friends with some piggies ready to cross the border too. When it was finally our turn, we left Cambodia with an exit stamp and simply walked across the friendship bridge to Thailand. Then we proceeded to wait along with hundreds of fellow sweaty foreigners for the Thai border control guards to let us in. After a sweltering 3 hours in the sun (there was no shade to found), we finally got the entry stamp for Thailand.
From there, we briefly considered public transportation options to get to the Bangkok airport, but given all the time we lost waiting at the border crossing, we sucked it up and paid for a 3 hour taxi to the airport. Once at the airport, we celebrated globalization with a DQ treat. Once it was time to board our flight, we got as comfy as possible on our propeller plane and flew across the border to Burma. Then we patiently waited, once again, in the Burmese passport control line to get that third passport stamp of the day.
